Naomi has enjoyed many years of work in higher education prior to which she served in the U.S. government as an international trade specialist. Her educational background is foreign languages (German, French), business, and sociology, and she is particularly interested in the ways that individuals acquire and apply intercultural knowledge and skills. Naomi is an active member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, the Forum on Education Abroad, and other professional groups. She is a certified professional in the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad and has served in NAFSA's Trainer Corps. In addition to language and cultural topics, Naomi's interests include spending time outside as an avid birder and amateur
naturalist. She is pleased to be working with Davidson students as they incorporate
international education into their plans.

Abbie N. Cardona
Assistant Director, Education Abroad

Abbie CardonaAbbie works with students throughout the study abroad process, from initial exploration to reflection upon return to campus, assists the Director with program and budget management for the Davidson study abroad programs, and supports risk management procedures. She also communicates with partner provider program representatives, oversees the online application system, and manages Davidson's registry of international travel.

Abbie completed study abroad programs in Florence, Italy; Seville, Spain; and the United Kingdom and worked at Auburn University before joining the Education Abroad team at Davidson. She has presented at local, regional, and national conferences on study abroad alumni engagement and
international exchange student services.

Recently married, Abbie and her husband Joel enjoy being outdoors and trying new restaurants, and they hope to add a puppy to their new family soon.

Evan Owen
Education Abroad Adviser

Evan_pic2 Evan supports Davidson students during all stages of their study abroad experience. Before they leave, he guides students in finding program options that align with their interests, navigating the application process, and preparing for departure. While abroad, he responds to student inquiries and concerns while communicating with Education Abroad colleagues, partner providers, and faculty leaders. Upon return, he shares useful resources and coordinates programming opportunities for reflection and cultural readjustment. Evan also works on study abroad outreach efforts on campus, various assessment projects, and online application management.

Evan studied Anthropology as an undergraduate at Christopher Newport University in Virginia, which included an unforgettable semester abroad at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. He served two years in AmeriCorps supporting communities in need all over the United States prior to returning to school to earn his M.Ed. at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Evan is a proud, new father of a baby girl and can’t wait to share future adventures together with his daughter, wife, and pup!

Ernesto's experience in higher education has evolved from working in International Outreach to serving as the Special Programs Coordinator at Virginia Tech's Language and Culture Institute (LCI) and nine years in student life at West Virginia University as an Area Adviser within Residential Education. Ernesto is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and West Virginia University, and he is also an alumnus of NAFSA: Association of International Educators Academy. His professional and personal experience within liberal arts education, coupled with his ability to connect with and advise a variety of students will be instrumental in his role as an Education Abroad Adviser.

Ernesto was born in Trinidad and Tobago and is an avid fan of soccer. He enjoys coaching, playing, and following teams from all around the world.
